Indianapolis PRK Eye Surgery
You’ve probably heard of LASIK before. And while LASIK surgery is both common and applicable to millions of patients, it’s not always an option for some. This is why it’s always good to consult a complete ophthalmology practice that offers additional surgical alternatives, rather than a simple LASIK eye surgery chain. And it’s why Lanter EyeCare specializes in a variety of vision correction procedures for our patients, like PRK (photo-refractive keratotomy).
A common step in a LASIK procedure is the creation of a corneal flap, which ultimately speeds up recovery time. However, for some patients, the creation of this flap is not possible. But the good news is that in PRK, this flap is not necessary, which makes it a safe and effective alternative to LASIK for many refractive surgery patients. And while this does mean that PRK requires a slightly longer recovery time than LASIK, the potential results of both procedures are similar. Here’s how a PRK procedure works…
- Your eye is numbed with anesthetic drops.
- Your ophthalmologist removes the outer cornea cells and proceeds with the actual laser treatment.
- The cornea is carefully reshaped with the laser, generally in under a minute.
