Indianapolis Optometrist
Dr. Earl Lanter graduated “With Distinction” from Indiana University in 1977 and received a Doctor of Optometry degree “With High Distinction” in 1979. After a year of practice as an Optometrist, Dr. Lanter attended the Indiana University School of Medicine, wherein 1984 he received a Doctor of Medicine degree “With Highest Distinction,” and went to complete specialty training in Ophthalmology in 1988.
After completing his specialty training, Dr. Lanter started his own practice in Indianapolis. He was an early clinical investigator of foldable intraocular lenses, and in 1992, became one of the first eye surgeons in the United States to perform Clear Corneal Cataract surgery, using only topical anesthesia, which eliminated uncomfortable shots, stitches, and patches. The results were nearly instant, giving many patients the ability to see at a distance without glasses or contacts. New techniques and innovations in vision correction and refractive surgery quickly became Dr. Lanter’s passion, as he pursued training from leading experts around the world, traveling throughout the U.S., Canada, Europe, and even as far as China to learn of the latest in technology and surgical procedures.
In 1996, Dr. Lanter performed the first LASIK surgery in Indianapolis in a hospital-owned surgery center in Indianapolis, ushering in a new era of eye care and vision correction surgery. Today, his practice, Lanter EyeCare, owns, operates, and maintains in its own dedicated LASIK center, home to the latest Intralase LASIK and PRK technology.
